Laser hair removal is one of the most wanted aesthetic applications. Its success is based on quick performance, minimal discomfort and long term results, which are not comparable with more traditional techniques.

The laser delivers energy to a targeted pigment (melanin) in hair, causing a localised thermal injury to the hair follicles whilst not damaging the rest of the skin.

All treatments are performed with the GentleLASE™ 755 nm alexandrite laser. This is the premier hair removal laser, providing quick (75% faster than conventional lasers), comfortable and effective treatment. GentleLASE™ is also very versatile with the capability of treating pigmented and vascular lesions and wrinkles. The Dynamic Cooling Device uses adjustable epidermal protection technology to maximize clients’ safety and comfort.

The GentleLASE™ system works by using a revolutionary long-pulsed high energy laser which emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. The visible light source used in this procedure is attracted to melanin, which is the pigment found in hair. Because the light is attracted to dark colours the darker the hair the more effective the treatment. Therefore, number of treatments required can vary between 4 and 8 depending on the melanin content of hair.

Skin pigment removal

The laser beam absorbs the melanin present in pigment cells, breaking them down resulting in a lighter and paler tone, which blends naturally into the surrounding area.

Full consultation is required to assess the number of treatments and cost.

Pre and post treatment care advice

It is essential to carry out an in-depth consultation and skin test prior to all treatments.

30 days before treatment:

- Do not use sun-beds or sun bathe
- Do not use self tanning creams
- Do not wax, thread or tweeze hair from the area
- Do not have electrolysis on the area
- Do not use depilatory cream or bleach the area

After the laser treatment it is common for the area to feel slightly warm. It is also common to experience some redness, local swelling and mild tenderness. The use of 100% Aloe Vera gel is recommended directly after treatment and for the following few days if necessary.

For 30 days after treatment:

- Avoid exposure to UV light (sun-beds, tanning etc)
- SPF30+ should be applied when outside. (Excessive exposure can cause pigmentation of the skin)
- An ice cold compress can be applied if the area feels hot or uncomfortable
- Exfoliate the area 4 days after the treatment to encourage the hair to shed.

Frequently asked questions

How is treatment carried out?

The laser is placed on the skin and short pulse of light is released, which target many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. Our laser uses a separate contact cooler for all hair removal treatment. This means that when the hand piece contacts the skin it will feel very cool, which is essential for a comfortable treatment and will also protect the skin from flash burns.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has high concentration of melanin. Fair hair however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat.

How does the treatment feel?

Treatment sensation varies but is often described as “ a flick of an elastic band”.
Typically no anaesthesia is required and most clients described the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.

What will I see after the treatment?

The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1-3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

Are there any side effects?

The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

How many treatments are necessary?

Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4-8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but typically 4 or more treatments are needed for optimum results.

How long does each treatments take?

Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Consultation Procedure

Prior to treatment, a consultation is conducted in which a medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment, there is also an opportunity for any questions you may have to be answered.
